EDUCATION
1997 - 2002
BACHELOR OF DESIGN, COMPUTING SCIENCE ROUTE,
UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA, EDMONTON, CANADA
At the University of Alberta, the Industrial Design Division falls within the Department of Art and Design in the Faculty of Arts. As such, Industrial Design students spend their first year among students pursuing Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees, in Visual Fundamentals classes:
Art History, Sculpture, Drawing, etc.
Starting in the second year, the Industrial Design Program offers a number of "routes", allowing the customization of the degree to a certain extent. I chose the Computing Science route, giving me access to classes within the Faculty of Computing Science, which allowed me to minor in areas including coding, database management, computer graphics, and robotics.
As a mature student (I was 31 in my first year), and showing an aptitude for 3D modeling, I was offered positions as a technician / teaching assistant in the final two years of my studies.
